WANT TO GET RID OF METAL JUNK?

Do you have an old refrigerator, freezer, lawn mower or any other metal junk you would like to get rid of? City Hall has the name of someone who will pick up metal junk free of charge every Monday. He will even take old cars as long as you have the title. If you would like to get rid of any metal you may have, please call City Hall. We will take your name, address and phone number and the item to be picked up and pass it along.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Marian Calnon, Parks Committee Chair, reports she could use more volunteers to help with maintenance at the City's parks. The work would involve weed cutting and flowerbed maintenance. Please call City Hall if you would like to donate some of your time to help maintain our parks.

DOOR-TO-DOOR SALES

This time of the year, we start to see more door-to-door sales. Some of the sales are reputable companies, but some may be scams. The City requires a City business license and a solicitation permit.

Here are some tips to avoid being scammed from Nick A. Congemi, Chief of Police of Kenner:

The federal government requires solicitors to provide the seller's name and place of business, a description of the goods or services, the amount of money paid and an explanation of the cooling off period. Anyone who makes a purchase from this type of salesperson has a three-day cooling off period. During those three days, you are free to change your mind about the purchase and are not required to give a reason. The company may not charge a cancellation fee during this time.

If you purchase anything from a door-to-door salesperson, you should receive an invoice that includes the date of the transaction, the date by which the buyer may give notice of cancellation and notification of the three-day cooling off period, the name and address of the seller and duplicate copies for the customer.

Before doing business with anyone selling door-to-door, please ask them to provide you with a copy of their City business license and solicitation permit, and report violators to the City Hall.
