PUBLIC HEARING![]()
CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS
PROHIBITING OUTDOOR BURNING
The Columbia City Council is considering the adoption of an ordinance that will prohibit outdoor burning within the City. The ordinance is modeled after the City of St. Helens' Outdoor Burning Ordinance. It entirely prohibits the burning of trash and the use of burn barrels. However, the Ordinance does allow a burn period twice annually, each for a period of two weeks. During each two-week period, residents may obtain a permit to allow the use of an open outdoor fire for burning yard debris.
A public hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. on September 4, 2003, to accept public comments about the proposed ordinance. Written comments will also be accepted. The draft ordinance is available for public inspection at the City Hall. It may also be found on our website at www.columbia-center.org/colcity.
DEVELOPMENT CODE AMENDMENTS
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing regarding proposed amendments to the new Development Code. These amendments will "clean-up" several items within the new code. The public hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, in the Council Chambers of the City Hall.
A second public hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. before the City Council on September 18, 2003, in the Council Chambers of the City Hall.
Interested persons may attend any of the public hearings, or may choose to submit comments in writing prior to the hearings. The proposed changes are available for public inspection at the City Hall.

WATER PROJECT UPDATE
The concrete walls of the water storage tank have been poured, and they will now begin pouring the roof.
Water transmission line construction work will proceed to Sixth Street, continue up "I" Street, and then up Ninth Street to the reservoir site during September.
BUNDY MEMORIAL PARK
Work continues to progress in Bundy Park. The Public Works crew removed stumps, installed a water hydrant in the park for irrigation, and graveled the new walking trails. They will bring in wood chips to complete the trails, and rock for the rock garden. Morse Bros. donated the gravel and rock for the project, and Boise donated the wood chips. We'd like to extend a special "thank you" to them for their generous donations.
Marion Calnon, Bernard Carlton, and Nell Harrison have been working diligently in Bundy Park. Nell's brother, Jack Siegrist, from Holdenville, Oklahoma spent several hours weed eating the park.
THANK YOU
We'd like to extend a very special thank you to:
Bernadette Albertine, Alice Barchus, Gloria Chinell, Nell Harrison, Phyllis Moss, Helen Sandstrom and Amy West for helping with newsletters and utility bills in July.
Judy Grimm and Gertie Sullenger for donating funds to purchase flowers for planting in Bundy Park.
Marian Calnon for continuing to keep the flower beds looking great at City Hall, and cleaning up the shrubbery at the Community Hall.
West Oregon Wood Products for donating a selection of barbecue pellets for Mayor Young to take to the Mayors' conference.
