ORDINANCE NO. 488
AN ORDINANCE CONSOLIDATING AND COMBINING THE OFFICE OF CITY MARSHAL AND CITY CHIEF OF POLICE.
WHEREAS, Chapter 3, Section 10, of the City of Columbia City Charter of 1972 provides for the appointment of such officers as the Council deems necessary; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has approved of the creation of the City Police Department and the appointment of a City Chief of Police; and
WHEREAS, earlier ordinance of the City make reference to a City Marshal and the City Marshal’s office; now, therefore,
The City of Columbia City ordains as follows:
Section 1. [Combining Positions.] The offices of the City Marshal and the City Chief of Police are hereby combined and consolidated.
Section 2. [Combining Departments.] The departments of the City Marshal and the City Police are hereby combined and consolidated.
Section 3. [General Purpose.] The City Chief of Police and the Police Department shall have the same rights, powers, privileges and authority as the City Marshal and the City Marshal’s department, and there shall be no distinction between the two offices or departments.
Passed by the council and approved by the mayor July 7, 1994.
