ORDINANCE NO. 486
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A FEE FOR ANSWERING FALSE BURGLAR ALARMS.
The City of Columbia City ordains as follows:
Section 1. Response to Burglar Alarms or Hold Up Alarms. The City of Columbia City Police Department will respond to alarms without charge except as herein provided.
Section 2. False Alarm Response Fee. A fee of $50 shall be charged the tenant, owner or other person in charge of the premises for each false alarm, exceeding two within any 12-month period, to which the Police Department responds by sending police officers to investigate. A fee of $125 will be charged for each false alarm, of four or more, in any 12-month period.
Section 3. False Alarm Definition. For purposes of this ordinance, a "false alarm" shall be defined as the discharge of any alarm system which is caused by the mechanical or malfunction of the alarm system or by the intentional misconduct or negligent act of the owner, tenant or other person in charge of the premises, or their agent, employee or invitee, upon which the alarm is located.
